Whats Happening at Elk Hills!
August 30, 2011-New Revised Bus Schedule:
The following information concerns changes in our bus routes starting next Tuesday, September 6, 2011 (No school on Monday). PLEASE take time to review the enclosed information carefully, if your student rides the bus to or from Elk Hills School. Many changes have been made to the bus schedule due to the growth of the students needing transportation services and to better accommodate our students and families needs.
The changes in our Bus Route Schedule (see enclosed) include using a larger bus for our Bakersfield route to allow for this route to pick up our “North of School” students. This will help lower the number of students riding the other two buses and allowing for additional stops for safety concerns. And in many cases, it will also help shorten the time that students will be riding the bus to and from school.
Please see the REVISED BUS SCHEDULE starting next Tuesday, Sept. 6th

October 4-7, 2011 OUTDOOR SCHOOL
Outdoor school has come and gone for the 2011 school year at R-Ranch. The students had a great time in the mountains. We arrived Tuesday to great weather and the students quickly found their bunks and cabins and got settled in. After lunch we headed to the Dance Hall and started our adventure through time and watched the opening ceremonies about our trip. Next, the students were put into their teams and came up with a motto or drawing for the shirts they were given and decorated the shirts. Taking advantage of the good weather we had a campfire that night that produced some great songs and fellowship. Wednesday morning we woke up to rain all day. The kids did a great job coping with the weather. We played games, watched movies and completed our inside trails that day. After dinner went to the Dance Hall and played BINGO, the kids got a real kick out of that. We put the kids to bed hoping the weather would be better the next day, and it was. The students had a chance to go on four different trails that day, which included one riding the horses. I believe five of our students had never ridden a horse before that day. That night we celebrated our final night with a special Birthday party, brownies-whipped cream-fudge with a cherry on top for one lucky camper. The next morning the students got up, packed and cleaned the cabins to get ready for their return.
I would like to personally thank all the chaperones and teachers for their efforts in making this year’s Outdoor School a great success.
P.S. The food was amazing all week.
