Last Friday marked the 100th day of school and while we did not meet our attendance goal of 100%, we will still had fun with the students who were here that day! Staff, students, and families were greeted by an amazing yard card to kick off the morning- lots of photos were taken! During the students' lunch recesses there was a photo opportunity, fun music to dance to, and a treat with a little note reminding students and staff of how "sweet" it is that we have spent 100 days together!
We're now on the countdown to summer with only 77 more schools days to go! I know as the year goes on, and the sun comes out to play, it may become more difficult to get students to school, but as we inch closer to the end of the year it is extremely important that all students are here on a daily basis as they will begin learning the foundational skills they will need when they level up to the next grade in the 26-27 school year.

Now that winter is here, it is time to review the Elk Hills School District fog delay procedures. There are times when Elk Hills School will delay opening two hours because of the dense fog conditions. Please be advised that school supervision will also be delayed by (2) hours, so do not send children to school until supervision is available on declared fog delay days. Supervision at the school will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The decision to delay school is usually made before 6:45 a.m. in order to get the information to the media in a timely manner. When the roads are being checked between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., visibility may be acceptable, however, at 7:00 a.m. when busses are on the road, conditions may have worsened.
Since we cannot predict what will happen with the foggy conditions, we have to make the best decision we can, based on the road conditions before the busses begin their routes at 7:00 a.m. We make the best decision we can on actual observations in our District.
Please be aware that when a fog delay is called, it is done in the following manner:
Visibility is checked throughout the district between 5:30 a.m. - 6:30 a.m. by the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation (MOT).
Prior to 6:30 a.m., the Director of MOT will notify the district superintendent who will then notify the Kern County Superintendent's Office and post a delay advisory on the Internet. Media will monitor the internet posting and report via your favorite TV or radio station.
If the district delays, it will be for 2 hours. (Busses will run 2 hours late.)
