September is Attendance Awareness Month!
over 2 years ago, Cassandra McGowan
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow green and purple sign. Good school attendance means.. elementary students read well by the end of third grade. Middle Schoolers pass important courses. High schoolers stay on track for graduation. College students earn their degrees. Workers succeed in their jobs. Too many absences excused or unexcused can keep students from succeeding in school and in life. How many days are too many? 10% of the school year, that's 18 days or 2 days a month, can knock students off track. Images include child at desk, child standing, child throwing graduation hat, adult graduating from college, adult holding a red folder. Image of a red apple with a white hand on it and in green it says Attendance Works
Hi Parents, Out of concern for the safety of the students and respect for our neighboring homes, please pull inside of the school gate when picking up your student from school. You may use one of our parking spots, or follow the arrows and drive up to the curb for student pick up. Thank you

Dear Elk Hills Families, Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! As we move through the beginning of the school year you might hear your child talk about their mentor, this is because Elk Hills School District established a schoolwide mentorship program during the 2020-21 school year. Our mentorship program matches all staff members with a small group of student mentees in order to give all of our students an extra person of support while at school. Mentors typically have a small group of 5-8 mentees with whom they meet for 30 minutes on the last school Wednesday of every month for a group activity. Your child’s mentor serves as a cheerleader for all of their accomplishments, big or small, but mentors can also be on the lookout for signs of distress in your child and guide them to the proper channel of support. Studies have shown that children who have a mentor are less likely to drop out of high school, less likely to use drugs and/or alcohol, and have higher self-esteem. Our first Meet & Greet will be at the end of September, please be sure to talk to your child about his or her mentor and encourage your student to speak with their mentor if they are ever having an issue at school. Encourage your child to attend school on the days we have our Mentorship Meet & Greets, and if your child is not connecting with his or her mentor please be sure to have them speak to Mrs. Cassandra about it. We want to ensure that our students feel comfortable with their mentors! If you ever have any questions, would like more information, or have a general comment about the mentorship program please email our Community Engagement Coordinator, Cassandra McGowan, at cacmgowan@elkhills.org. Looking forward to an amazing 2022-23 school year!
