Parents/Guardians;
Due to the recent fog, it is time to review the Elk Hills School District fog delay procedures. There are times when Elk Hills School will delay opening two hours because of the dense fog conditions. Please be advised that school supervision will also be delayed by (2) hours, so do not send students to school until supervision is available on declared fog delay days. Supervision at the school will begin at 9:30am. Please note, there will be not be before school care on fog delay days.
The decision to delay school is usually made before 6:45am in order to get the information to the media in a timely manner. When the roads are being checked between 5:30am and 6:30am, visibility may be acceptable; however, at 7:00am, when busses are on the road, conditions may have worsened.
Since we cannot predict what will happen with the foggy conditions, we have to make the best decision we can based on the road conditions before the busses begin their routes at 7:00am. We make the decision on actual observations in our District.
Please be aware that when a fog delay is called, it is done in the following manner:
Visibility is checked throughout the district between 5:30am - 6:30am by the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation (MOT).
Prior to 6:30am the Director of MOT will notify the district superintendent who will then notify the Kern County Superintendent of Schools office and post a delay advisory on the Internet. Media will monitor the internet posting and report via TV and radio stations.
If the district delays, it will be for 2 hours. (Busses will run 2 hours late from the regularly scheduled pick up time).
For information regarding Elk Hills School delay:
Check the fog delay alert line at https://alertline.kern.org/
Check the EHSD App/Live Feed/Facebook
Listen to the radio station
Watch the early morning news program on TV
Please do not call the school, radio or TV stations, or the sheriff's station. Finally, if you feel it is unsafe to send your student to school when the bus runs during the foggy weather, feel free to keep him/her home until you feel you can safely transport them to school.

Community Bingo Night is this Thursday from 5:00-6:30PM in the cafeteria. Join us for a FREE fun-filled evening!

Staff Spotlight: Miss Savannah
Hello, I am Miss Savannah, an Instructional Aide at Elk Hills School. I started out at Elk Hills as an AmeriCorps mentor and was recruited by the Elk Hills community to be an extra support for Academics and it has been a journey since and I am going on my 4th year strong! Even though the commute from Bakersfield to Tupman can be lengthy sometimes, it is worth being able to be a part of such a close, family-oriented community along with colleagues who have your best interest.
When I am not at work, you can find me hanging out with my family at a carshow, catching a music concert with my siblings, traveling, or getting lost in nature!
Fun Fact about me: I used to live in San Diego, Japan, Minnesota and Humboldt.
One goal I have for this school year is to help our kiddos gain more confidence and believe in themselves in all that they do!

School resumes tomorrow, 12/2/24, at 8:30 a.m. We can't wait to see you all!

Happy Thanksgiving from Elk Hills School District! We are grateful for each and everyone of you!

Hi all! I’m Ms. Vlahos (also known as Ms. V!) I am the sixth grade teacher. This is my third year teaching, as well as my third year at Elk Hills. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from CSUB, as well as my Master’s in Elementary Education from GCU. I am currently very close to finishing my Teaching Credential!
I truly enjoy working at Elk Hills because of the strong sense of family that comes from being part of a small school in a tight-knit community. The close relationships with students, families, and colleagues, create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and connected. It’s rewarding to see the positive impact we can make together!
I have an ornery Golden Retriever named Wallen who keeps me on my toes! I love spending time with family (Auntie is my favorite title), with friends, at the beach, watching sports, cooking, or watching/listening to true crime documentaries!
My hope for this school year is to inspire my students to love learning and face challenges with confidence. I do my best to create a classroom where everyone feels loved and safe to share their thoughts and work together. I always tell my kiddos that at the end of the day, if you are kind human beings, I did my job as a teacher. This year, I’m excited to incorporate more hands-on projects that connect what we learn to the real world. I truly believe that together, we can make this a memorable and impactful year!

Mrs. Cindy has been with Elk Hills for four years, first as a bus driver, and now as a bus driver and an instructional intervention aide. Her favorite thing about her job as an intervention aide is watching the students light up with joy when they master a new skill during Walk to Learn! She really enjoys working at Elk Hills because of the sense of family she gets from working with, in her words, the amazing and caring staff. Before coming to work here at Elk Hills, Mrs. Cindy spent 21 years working at Taft Correctional Institution- three years as a correctional officer and the next 18 as a correctional counselor. She loves her two dogs named Bonnie and Clyde, taking vacations with her entire family, watching ALL the Marvel movies, and playing Clash Royale.

Our 4th and 5th grade students will be visiting Taft College on Wednesday, November 20. We look forward to our campus tour and exploring the CTEC programs in our local community!
