Mrs. Cindy has been with Elk Hills for four years, first as a bus driver, and now as a bus driver and an instructional intervention aide. Her favorite thing about her job as an intervention aide is watching the students light up with joy when they master a new skill during Walk to Learn! She really enjoys working at Elk Hills because of the sense of family she gets from working with, in her words, the amazing and caring staff. Before coming to work here at Elk Hills, Mrs. Cindy spent 21 years working at Taft Correctional Institution- three years as a correctional officer and the next 18 as a correctional counselor. She loves her two dogs named Bonnie and Clyde, taking vacations with her entire family, watching ALL the Marvel movies, and playing Clash Royale.

Big Smiles will be on campus November 21, 2024. Don't forget to sign up your child if you'd like them to be seen! Go to www.myschooldentist.com to sign them up before November 12, 2024. Big Smiles is a mobile dentist that comes to school campuses and provides dental services, these services include xrays, cleaning, sealants, and small cavity fillings. Having dental work done in a safe, comfortable environment takes away a lot of the stress children can have about dentists. Elk Hills has been working with Big Smiles for three years and they have provided many students with excellent dental care.

We at Elk Hills would like to thank all the veterans for thier service. We'd like to give a special shoutout to the veterans in our Elk Hills family: Mr. Weyant and Mr. Medina! Your service to this country, and continued service to this community is greatly appreciated!

Staff Spotlight: Mrs. J
Mrs. J has been working for Elk Hills since the 22-23 school year. We first met Mrs. J at our Kicks for Kids event during the 21-22 Trunk or Treat, she enjoyed being at Elk Hills so much that she started coming here for other events with the Kicks for Kids crew and eventually began working here as a kindergarten aide. In the 23-24 school year she moved into the position of instructional intervention aide with the literacy intervention team. Mrs. J loves helping the community and often does outreach for her church. She has three sons and has been married to her husband for over 20 years. She is currently working through a rigorous literacy program aimed to help the students she works with become the best readers they can be. Mrs. J loves spending time with her family and napping when she is not at work.

Dear Parents,
We were just made aware of some road construction taking place tomorrow morning and afternoon along our bus routes. Please be patient with us if the buses are delayed. Hopefully, all will be clear and open when we are in route. Thank you!

The Coins for Courage coin drive is being extended until tomorrow! On Friday, November 8th, please bring any coins or bills you would like to donate! All proceeds will go to Honor Flight Kern County to help send a veteran to Washington D.C.!
From about section of the Honor Flight Kern County's website: "With your generous donations these American Heroes receive a hero’s send-off in Bakersfield and a hero’s welcome in Washington, D.C. Once in DC, the veterans spend their time on guided tours to see many of the memorials in D.C., including the WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Lincoln, Women’s, Navy, Marine, and Air Force memorials as well as the Changing of The Guard, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in Arlington National Cemetery."

Elk Hills would like to thank one of our parents, Kathy Rowland, and her employer, Fastenal, for donating the many cases of water bottles during the summer and first few months of school. Their donation helped keep our students cool during the bus rides and walks home. We appreciate you Kathy!

Elk Hills Community,
After speaking with the Kern County Fire Department, we have lifted the shelter and place. The leak has been stopped and the site is being secured. Thank you for your patience in this matter. The safety of our students and staff is our number one concern.
