Pie Pate on Pi Day was a success! Pie Pate is the reward for classrooms that participate in our yearly Battle of the Books. Each classroom that participates reads books and decides collectively which book will move on to the next round until there is a winning book in each participating classroom. Every student from the classrooms that participate receive one piece of pie to "Pie Pate" with! It's a fun activity that gets students excited to read and discover new books! (If there are any pieces of pie left the staff get to have a chance to "Pie Pate!" Check out Mr. Murray's massive smile as he readies to throw his piece!)

At Elk Hills School District we do many things to promote good attendance, and while we do recognize that perfect attendance is not always possible, it is still important to instill healthy habits surrounding attending school on a regular basis. We have implemented several incentives over the past few years to help engage our students and reward them for attending school regularly and when we returned from Winter Break we started a new incentive: 100% for 20! For every 20 days a classroom has 100% attendance they will receive a pizza party! The days do not have to be consecutive and students who are on Independent Study are considered as present. First grade has already reached their 20 days and is getting their pizza party this Friday afternoon! Congratulations to our first grade class for being the first class to reap the benefits of this new incentive! There's still plenty of time for the rest of the classes to reach their 20 day goal! #ElksInSchool
